Volunteer

Volunteers are the driving force behind foodbanks. Your skills could be just what we need.

Lichfield Foodbank provides a minimum of three-day emergency food parcels to people in crisis, working in partnership with organisations across the community and is run entirely by volunteers.

Volunteers play a crucial role in the running of the food bank, from collecting and sorting donations to processing vouchers and helping to create a welcoming space for people in crisis.

Thank you for your interest in joining our team and helping people in crisis in our community. All available volunteering roles will appear on this page.

DISTRIBUTION CENTRE TEAM MEMBERS

We have a number of volunteer opportunities to work at one of our Distribution Centres within the Lichfield area.  Are you a good listener with the ability to work in a team and multi task when necessary while serving our clients in the moment of their food crisis.

Ideally you must be able to commit to 2.5 hour sessions bi-weekly on either Mon/Tues/Wed/Friday.

DRIVERS

Drivers play a fundamental role in the running of the food bank, collecting food donations from a variety of locations across the local area as well as distributing the sorted donations from the warehouse to the local food bank centres.

Do you have:

– have a van/car to use

– around 2.5 hours a week to volunteer (various times & days available to suit)

The work involves:

– loading food crates into your vehicle

– delivering it to our foodbank centres within Lichfield

– Transporting food from collection points to the warehouse for sorting, and finally onto one of our local foodbanks

A confident and safe driver, you’ll enjoy being part of a team and be physically strong so that you can lift and load crates of food. Your flexible and committed approach will help to maximise donations and improve the efficiency of the food bank.

WAREHOUSE TEAM MEMBERS

Must be able to commit to 2.5 hours sessions bi-weekly on either a Mon/Tues/We/Fri.

Acting as the link between food donations coming in and reaching those in crisis, you’ll support the smooth running of your local food bank. You’ll be part of a team sorting and packing food and additional items in the warehouse. You’ll be organised and have an eye for detail; this includes checking, weighing and recording stock and sorting food by date and type. This is a physical role as you’ll be on your feet a lot and you must be comfortable with some heavy lifting and maintaining a clean and safe warehouse.

ADMIN SUPPORT – Home Based

This is a new vacancy – as a Foodbank administrator you will play an important role in the smooth running of the foodbank.  You will be responsible for ensuring emails are replied to promptly, entering voucher data and updating spreadsheets/databases.

Your support will make a real difference to people’s lives as you will help to maintain the high level of help and support being offered to people in crisis in your community.  Hours and days to be agreed to suit the individual.

For all the above vacancies – no experience is required, as all necessary training will be provided, however you will need to believe in the ethos of foodbanks and helping others in a non-judgemental way.
